Home charging runs through the normal DEWA meter at the residential slab tariff: AED 0.230 per kWh for the first 2,000 kWh in a month, 0.280 up to 4,000, 0.320 up to 6,000 and 0.380 above that. Every kWh also carries the monthly fuel surcharge (AED 0.060 in September 2026) and 5% VAT. So a slab-1 household pays about AED 0.3045 per kWh all-in and a slab-2 household about AED 0.357. An EV doing 1,500 km a month at 18 kWh/100km adds about 270 kWh, which is often enough to tip a villa into the next slab. UAE petrol prices change on the 1st of each month. September 2026 rates per the UAE Fuel Price Committee: Super 98 AED 3.80, Special 95 AED 3.69, E-Plus 91 AED 3.61, Diesel AED 4.30. Pick the grade your car's fuel flap asks for; if the month has moved on, type the rate from the ADNOC Distribution app or uae.gov.ae.

Energy cost is the EV's clear win, and this calculator shows the size of it. Total cost of ownership also depends on three things it leaves out: purchase price (new EVs still tend to cost more than the petrol equivalent), depreciation (EVs have tended to lose value faster in their first years) and battery replacement risk after the warranty ends.
