Frequently asked questions
Monthly by the Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure. New prices announced last week of each month, effective on the 1st. UAE doesn't subsidise petrol — prices roughly track global crude with a fixed margin, so monthly changes can be 5-15%.
Manufacturer-claimed (often combined cycle) figures are typically 15-25% optimistic vs UAE real-world driving (heavy AC, summer heat, traffic). Check your trip computer's long-term average. Typical UAE numbers: Toyota Camry 7-8 L/100km, Land Cruiser 14-17, Tesla Model 3 equivalent ~17-20 kWh/100km.
Yes — UAE summer AC can add 1-2 L/100km to fuel consumption. A 6-hour drive to Oman in August will use noticeably more fuel than the same drive in February. The defaults reflect annual average; expect 10-20% more in peak summer.
Not in this calculator — fuel only. For a complete trip cost, add Salik gates (AED 4-6 each) and Darb Abu Dhabi tolls (AED 4 per gate at peak times). Use the Salik calculator for those.
Roughly 30-50% of petrol cost per km for typical UAE rates. A 350km Tesla trip uses ~60 kWh; at DEWA EV Green Charger rates that's roughly AED 18-30 — vs maybe AED 60-90 in a petrol equivalent. Use the EV vs Petrol calculator for direct comparison.
