Frequently asked questions
Carpet comes in rolls of fixed width. You buy a rectangular cut of (roll width × length). If your room is 4×5m and the roll is 4m wide, you buy 4×5 = 20m² to cover 20m² of floor — perfect. But if your room is 5×6m and the roll is 4m wide, you can't cover 5m of room width with a single 4m roll — you need a seam, which means buying more.
UAE and Europe: 4m is the dominant width (some 5m premium rolls). US: 12 feet (3.66m). Wider rolls reduce seam count for large rooms but cost more per m². If you're buying from a UAE retailer (Carpetex, Choithrams, Dragon Mart wholesalers), default to 4m.
Recommended for any carpet over basic budget level. Underlay extends carpet life by 2-3x, dampens noise, and adds insulation. UAE concrete floors particularly benefit from underlay — the cool surface otherwise makes the carpet feel cold. Standard 8-10mm foam underlay is fine for most homes.
Budget synthetic (polypropylene): AED 60-100/m². Mid-range nylon or polyester: AED 120-250/m². Premium wool or wool blend: AED 300-800/m². Custom-cut / antique / silk rugs: AED 1,000+/m². Add AED 20-40/m² for fitting if hiring a contractor (most UAE carpet retailers include free fitting on purchases over a threshold).
All carpet pile has a direction (run your hand: smooth one way, rough the other). Single-direction installation orients all strips the same way — visually consistent shading, lowest waste. Pattern-match (or pile-match) aligns adjacent strips so seams disappear in patterned carpets — looks cleaner but wastes ~5-10% more carpet per seam.
