Frequently asked questions
Ramadan 1448 AH is expected to begin on Monday, 8 February 2027 per Umm al-Qura calculation. The actual start is confirmed by the UAE Moon-Sighting Committee on the evening of Sunday, 7 February 2027. If the crescent moon is not sighted, Ramadan begins one day later. Eid al-Fitr is expected on Tuesday, 9 March 2027.
Fajr (dawn) is the religious start of fasting — eating must stop. Imsak is a precautionary stop-eating time, typically 10-15 minutes before Fajr, to ensure you don't accidentally eat past Fajr. Imsak is recommended (Sunnah) but not religiously obligatory — Fajr is the actual cutoff.
The Dubai method (Fajr 18.2°, Isha 18.2°) is the standard prayer-time calculation method used by UAE official mosques and the Awqaf authority. Other methods (Egyptian, MWL, ISNA) use slightly different angles. Dubai method gives Fajr times that match official UAE Adhan announcements.
Yes, all private-sector employees (Muslim and non-Muslim) get 2 hours off per working day during Ramadan, per UAE Federal Decree-Law 33/2021 Article 17(4) and Cabinet Resolution 1/2022. Normal 8-hour workday becomes 6 hours. Working more than 6 hours during Ramadan is overtime — paid at the standard 125% rate (or 150% for night/weekend overtime).
Fajr and Maghrib times shift by 2-5 minutes between UAE cities because of geographic differences (Fujairah is east, Ajman/Sharjah/Dubai are central, RAK is north). Total fasting duration is very similar across UAE — within 5 minutes between cities on the same day.
As Ramadan progresses, daylight gets slightly longer (in winter Ramadan, like 2027) or shorter (summer Ramadan, last seen ~2018). The change is small — typically 2-5 minutes longer each day in winter. Use the 30-day table to see exact daily duration.
