Frequently asked questions
What's the UAE government per diem rate?▾
Tier 1 cities (London, NYC, Tokyo, Singapore): AED 1,500/day at senior grade. Tier 2 (most European capitals): AED 1,200. Tier 3 (major regional): AED 900. Tier 4 (GCC, domestic): AED 600. Per UAE Cabinet Resolution 13/2014. Multipliers apply by seniority.
Why is eastward jet lag worse?▾
Our internal body clock runs slightly longer than 24 hours (about 24.2h). Westward travel extends the day — feels natural. Eastward travel compresses the day — fights biology. Recovery: ~1 day per timezone east, 0.5-0.67 day per timezone west. Eastman 2009 paper has the citation.
Can I pool baggage allowance across passengers?▾
Emirates and Etihad: yes, for passengers on the same booking traveling together. flydubai: usually not. Air Arabia: each passenger is separate. The Baggage Calculator handles multi-pax for the airlines that allow it.
How accurate is the flight duration calculator?▾
Exact for the time-zone math. Actual airline schedules are padded 10-15% for typical delays. Use the calculator when you have ONE end (e.g., departure time) and need to compute the other; use the booked schedule for actual reservation purposes.
Is per diem taxable?▾
Not in UAE — there's no personal income tax. For employees travelling from tax-paying countries, per diem within published government rates is usually tax-free; amounts above are taxable. Check your home tax authority's rules.
