A 1-hour meeting rarely costs only 1 hour per person. People spend 10-15 minutes reading the pre-read, 10-15 minutes writing notes/action items afterwards, and there's a context-switching tax of about 15 minutes when meetings interrupt deep work. The true cost is often 2-3× the meeting length.
Your direct salary isn't what you cost your employer. Add gratuity accrual (~1.3 days/year × 21 working days = 6%), health insurance (~AED 6,000-12,000/year), office space, equipment, software licences, plus the team-lead overhead carrying you. UAE fully-loaded cost is typically 1.3-1.5× headline salary.
Three biggest levers: shorter (default to 25 or 50 minutes instead of 30/60), fewer attendees (every extra person doubles the cost without doubling the value), and asynchronous alternatives (a Loom video + a shared doc often replaces a 30-minute status meeting with 5 minutes of work).
UAE Labour Law (Federal Decree-Law 33/2021) caps working hours at 48/week × 52 weeks = 2,496 hours, minus 30 days annual leave + 14 public holidays = roughly 2,200 working hours/year for a private-sector employee. Adjust if your company runs different hours.
