Frequently asked questions

How much waste should I budget for tiling?

10% for a straight layout in a square room. 15% for diagonal or herringbone patterns. 20% for irregular-shaped rooms with lots of cuts. The Tile Calculator applies these defaults automatically; you can override with custom waste %.

How many litres of paint for a typical room?

Rough estimate: 1L covers ~11m² with one coat. So a 4×5m room with 3m ceilings, walls only (after doors/windows): ~50m² × 2 coats ÷ 11 = ~9 L plus 10% waste = ~10 L. The Paint Calculator does this precisely.

Should I use ready-mix or bag concrete?

Under 1 m³ project: bag-mix is simpler (40 bags = 1 m³). Over 3 m³: ready-mix delivery saves time and cost (AED 220-280/m³ in UAE). Between 1-3 m³: judgment call. The Concrete Calculator shows both bag-equivalent and ready-mix truck counts.

Why does wallpaper pattern repeat matter?

Patterns must align between strips, which forces longer strips and more waste. Free match: no alignment, lowest waste. Straight match: pattern aligns horizontally, medium waste. Drop match (offset): pattern offsets diagonally, highest waste. Always check the wallpaper label for the repeat distance.

Do I need an underlay under carpet?

Recommended for any carpet above budget grade. Underlay extends carpet life by 2-3x, dampens noise, and adds insulation. UAE concrete floors particularly benefit. The Carpet Calculator includes underlay area + cost so you don't forget it.
